The Public Relations (PR) Committee shall develop industry-wide objectives, strategies, messages, programs and activities that raise awareness and appreciation of ports, their value as economic engines, and the vital role they play both internationally and locally. The Committee shall propose, develop and share communications best practices, as well as communications tools, values, research and training activities among committee members and within the AAPA membership/AAPA committees and partners.
AAPA’s annual Lighthouse Awards program recognizes the best practices in the port industry across various disciplines. Sponsored by the AAPA Public Relations Committee, the Communications Awards, a category of the AAPA Lighthouse Awards Program, has recognized excellence in port communications since 1966. Entries for the competition are judged by an independent panel of experienced communications professionals on situation analysis and research; identification of audience, goals, objectives, strategies and tactics; quality/clarity of content and style; skillful use of copy, photography, design, layout and graphics; and evaluation methods used to determine communication's success.
